Our Story

Harmony Retreat was founded in 1993 by Gad and Pam Avnon, who opened their farmhouse outside Greytown with a clear purpose: to provide people struggling with addiction a place of care, structure and genuine human connection.

What began as a deeply personal commitment to recovery has grown into a registered treatment centre offering both Agape House, our primary care programme, and Harmony Halfway House, our extended-care programme for continued support after primary treatment. Set on peaceful farmland in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Harmony Retreat provides a calm residential environment where clients can step away from daily pressures and focus on recovery.

While the facilities and programmes have evolved, the heart of Harmony remains the same: professional addiction treatment delivered with dignity, respect and individual attention. Each client receives dedicated counselling support and personalised guidance, while Gad remains closely involved in the admissions process. Harmony Retreat is registered with the Department of Social Development as well as the Department of Health, and continues to support individuals and families through every stage of the recovery journey.

To provide people facing addiction with the care, structure, tools, and support they need to begin and continue recovery in a warm, professional environment.
