Correctional facilities house some of South Africa's most undertreated populations of substance-dependent individuals. Without structured intervention before release, the cycle of addiction and reoffending continues - and communities bear the consequences.
Harmony Retreat's prison ministry brings evidence-based addiction education, individual counselling, 12-step programme facilitation, and pre-release reintegration planning directly into correctional facilities. We work with facility management to design programmes that function within the constraints of the environment while making a genuine difference to the people inside.
Our focus is both immediate - providing tools for sobriety and emotional stability while incarcerated - and long-term: connecting individuals with aftercare services, family reconnection support, and practical employment guidance ahead of their release.

Bringing recovery inside correctional facilities
How your facility partners with Harmony to run addiction programmes for incarcerated people, from first contact through to pre-release reintegration.
Facility invitation
Your chaplaincy or management team invites Harmony to assess the addiction needs of your incarcerated population and the security constraints of the environment.
Joint programme design
We design the education, counselling and 12-step facilitation schedule together with facility management so it works within your movement, timing and access rules.
In-facility delivery
Our team runs evidence-based addiction education, individual counselling and 12-step groups inside the facility to build sobriety tools and emotional stability during incarceration.
Pre-release reintegration
Ahead of release we prepare each participant with aftercare linkage, family reconnection support and employment guidance to sustain recovery on the outside.
